Published on: March 26, 2014LSC-Kingwood’s Library will sponsor a Mental Health Awareness Series every Wednesday in April. The purpose of this series is to demystify what mental illness is and to educate people on the truth of what specific disorders are and how they can be treated.
“The only exposure that people who suffer from mental illness get is often negative and focused on the extreme acts of violence that can happen when people reach a breaking point,” said Anthony McMillian, director of LSC-Kingwood’s Library. “Rarely do most people understand the struggle, heartache and often lack of treatment options that are available for people who suffer from the various disorders that are common in our society,” McMillan added. “We would like to put a face to these disorders and educate everyone on the challenges these people face and how it has an effect on everyone not just families of the persons who are dealing with these issues.”
The following topics will be covered in the series:
All presentations will take place in the LSC-Kingwood Library, Room 104 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The presentations are opened to the public. For more information, contact Anthony McMillian, library director at 281-312-1483 or at Anthony.J.McMillan@lonestar.edu.
