LSC-Kingwood’s ALL program will hold Open House events on Jan. 28 and Jan. 30 from 1-3 p.m. at EMCID and the LSC-Atascocita Center. For more information, call 281-312-1750.
The open houses are an opportunity for individuals age 50 and older to meet other ALL members, get to know the instructors, and to register classes. Both events are from 1-3 p.m.
“The open houses give potential members an opportunity to get acquainted with the programs and services,” said Pat Chandler, ALL program coordinator. “We offer non-credit courses, lectures, and social activities for continued intellectual and personal growth.”
The courses offer a range of instruction from Conversational French to Yoga to Digital Photography. Some of the popular programs are history classes and day trips on Harris County Precinct One buses and the METRO Bus and Rail. In spring 2014, more than 240 classes will be offered, with more than 70 at LSC-Atascocita Center. Classes offered at the LSC-Atascocita Center include subjects in the arts, healthcare, history, legal, and politics.
ALL will offer the AARP Tax-Aide Service from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 4-April 15 at EMCID and on Fridays, Feb. 7-April 11 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the LSC-Atascocita Center. This service helps people prepare their federal income tax returns for free. Anyone interested is asked to bring their social security card and a blank check for refunds to be deposited directly in their bank account. The tax-aide service is not available March 11 and 13 due to spring break.
The ALL program began in February 2004 at EMCID and in just 10 years, the program has grown to more than 900 active members. ALL is a volunteer program and courses are taught by members, LSC-Kingwood employees, and area residents. Additional volunteers are needed to work in the office answering phones, greet and assist members and help set up for classes.
Atascocita ALL volunteers assist with the organization of classes as well as assisting the volunteer instructors. Annual membership is $20 from Sept. 1-Aug. 31 and all courses offered are free and taught by volunteers. There are no educational requirements.
LSC-Atascocita Center is located at 15903 West Lake Houston Parkway. EMCID is located at 21575 Highway 59 North in New Caney. For more information about the ALL programs call 281-312-1750, visit http://www.lonestar.edu/all-kingwood.htm or email email@example.com.
