What is the GED test?

The General Educational Development (GED) test is an adult education service that enables a student to earn a certificate of High School Equivalency issued by the Texas Education Agency. In other words, a GED certifies that the taker has attained high school-level academic skills.

Lone Star College offers high school equivalency preparation and exam programs at several campuses. GED review courses are available in English and Spanish. Currently, there are five different subtests students must take to earn their GED:

  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Writing
  • Literature and the Arts

  • The HSEP form must be completed by the last school attended AND have the official withdrawal forms attached.
  • If the 17 year old has been homeschooled, the GED Affidavit for Homeschool  should be completed and notarized.

Partial GED Test

The partial GED test is available for individuals who need to take the Language Arts, Writing, Reading, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies parts of the Official GED Test. The partial test sections are offered during the same testing sessions as the GED Full Test sessions.

You must register for the partial GED test in the Continuing Education department at one of the LSC campuses. When you register, you must bring your previous GED test scores from the Texas Education Agency. To get these scores on an unofficial or official transcript, go to the Texas Education Agency website.
