New Student Orientation

Welcome to Lone Star College-CyFair!

We are glad you have chosen our college to continue your education. To help you with your transition to our college, we offer New Student Orientation programs prior to the start of each semester.

New Student Orientation is required for all first-time in college students. These programs include advising sessions and campus tours. New Student Orientations are FREE – however, students must register for Orientation ahead of time. Please note that due to space restrictions, these programs are for new students only.

1. Have you applied for admission to Lone Star College?

2. Do you know your Lone Star College ID number?
You can find this on the last page of your admissions application, or by logging into MyLonestar and looking under your demographic information in the Self-Service menu.

3. Have you submitted your official TAKS scores or other possible exemption scores (ACT or SAT)?
VERY IMPORTANT!

• Ask your high school counselor for your official TAKS scores. Turn in your official TAKS scores document at the Preregistration Counter (Step 1) in the CASA building, before you take a placement exam, so Lone Star College staff can determine whether you should take a placement exam in Reading or Writing. If you have scored a 2200+ with a 3+ on the essay will be exempt from taking a placement exam in those areas. You must still take a placement test for Math.
  
  
• CyFair ISD students: Look in your senior diploma envelope for your TAKS scores or log-in to the Home Access Center to print out your scores.
  
  
• If you have scores from a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), such as AP or CLEP, please bring them with you to orientation (see PLA form attached).

4. Have you taken your placement test? ONLY for those not exempt by completing #3 above.If it is determined that you must take a placement test, please note that all placement testing MUST be completed prior to attending orientation. This will allow you to take part in the advising and registration portion of the program. Don’t forget to attend a review session before testing.

5. Have you provided proof of meningitis vaccination or exemption? Meeting the state meningitis compliance requirement is part of the registration process. Student access to class registration will be blocked until evidence of compliance with meningitis requirements is completed. Students should plan ahead to meet compliance requirements and eliminate registration delays.
