Technician

General Definition

Primarily performs technical duties usually associated with the practical, industrial arts, or applied sciences. Typical duties may include set up/breakdown of equipment or tools, repairs to equipment. Also includes specialized computer programs and equipment.

Technician I

Under close supervision performs technical functions of a lower complexity level. Repairs, installs, builds technical equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience: High school diploma required. AA preferred. Some work related experience.

Technician II

Under general supervision performs technical function of a moderate complexity. May diagnose problems as well as repair, install and build equipment and systems.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience: Associate's degree required. One-three years work related experience.

Technician III

Under limited supervision performs technical functions at a high level of complexity. Diagnose, problem solves and independently repairs, installs, builds equipment and systems.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience: Associate's degree required (Bachelor's preferred). Three-five years work related experience.

Technician IV

Under limited supervision provides highly technical support or expertise. Requires extensive knowledge of technical area of expertise. Provides advice and acts as consultant as well as completes repairs, installations, and building of equipment and systems. Requires ability to communicate, understand, and meet needs of less technical customers. Generally unique position with limited backup.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience: Bachelor's degree required (extensive work related experience and AA may replace this requirement in a highly technical area). Five+ years work related experience.

LAN Technician

Under limited supervision, and often on own initiative, installs and maintains hardware and software on Local Area Networks. Installs and configures network operating systems, servers and/or traffic/bandwidth management.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience: Bachelor's degree required. Five+ years work related experience.

LAN / WAN Technician

Under limited supervision, and often on own initiative, installs and maintains hardware and software on Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks. Designs, installs and configures and manages LAN/WAN infrastructure, (routing/switching; circuits), servers and/or traffic/bandwidth management.

Knowledge,Skills, Experience: Bachelor's degree required. Five+ years work related experience.
