Strategic Planning Work Log

A Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) exercise was performed by the steering committee on February 6. SWOT Analysis is a strategic planning method used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats involved in determining future initiatives. It involves specifying the objectives of the college or project and identifying the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieving those objectives.

Developing Key Performance Indicators, Strategies and Accountability Measures  
During the February 20 and March 6 meetings, the steering committee participated in a vigorous exercise to determine college and centers implementation strategies that align with the 10 goals and objectives framework provided by LSCS. Key performance indicators of success and accountability measures were developed in conjunction with the strategies.

Strategic Plan Synthesis and Draft Preparation  
During the March 20 steering committee meeting, a process of information review and synthesis took place. Steering committee members collaborated to synthesize all prior work into a refined and coherent set of key performance indicators, strategies, and accountability measures. A smaller group gathered to polish the first draft and prepare for delivery to the System. The first draft of key performance indicators, strategies, and accountability measures was delivered to the System office by Dr. Head on Friday, March 27. 

Developing College Actions and Initiatives that Lead to Success    
Goal Keepers are responsible for collaborating with colleagues throughout the college and centers to develop actions and initiatives for each strategy. The actions and initiatives collaboratively developed throughout the college community will constitute the actual “work” that will be done over the next three years and beyond. Final Preparation and Moving Forward
A final draft of the 2009-2011 LSC-North Harris Strategic Plan was prepared and delivered to the System Office on Thursday, May 21. A quick reference strategic plan e-brochure is available..

The creation of a strategic plan to guide the college for the next three years is only a beginning. The strategies and actions developed as part of the strategic planning process serves as a starting point and framework for the work we will do as the college moves forward. Various college employees will be responsible for implementing and tracking actions associated with objectives, which will ultimately fulfill the goals. During this process, goals will be continually monitored for progress during a three-year period beginning fall 2009 and ending summer 2011.
