The Emergency Communications (Dispatch) office is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and is the hub for all means of communications for the department and after hour needs for the system. The communications operators are trained and certified as Telecommunications Operators, in State and National Law Enforcement Information and Telecommunications Systems, and the computer aided dispatch system. Our dispatchers must be able to answer and monitor multiple telephone lines, including 5911 emergency telephone lines, and a two-way radio system. They receive calls for service, both emergency and non-emergency, determine the nature and priority of the call received and dispatch appropriate service providers to properly address the situation.
Dispatchers are also responsible for the monitoring and dispatch of security and fire system alarms and maintenance referrals or system failures to service personnel. Campus surveillance systems will be added in the near future and will be monitored through the communications operations center. The department currently staff's three full time and five part time dispatchers who are supervised by the Emergency Communications Sergeant.
Our mission, through a high level of proficiency, is to provide a safe environment in which all members of the System may work, teach, study and learn. The Dispatch Center, in the daily performance of its functions, stresses:
