Tennis Team is Texas Club of Year for Third Time

For the third time, Lone Star College-CyFair’s Tennis Team has claimed the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Tennis On Campus Texas Club of the Year title.

The team’s community service efforts and attitude at regional events not only earned them this state honor but also an Honorable Mention for National Club of the Year and a bid to compete at the Tennis on Campus Nationals in Cary, North Carolina.

In addition, Coach Tim Sebesta said the team was the top community college with their 10th-place finish among 39 club teams (among which include A&M, UT, Baylor, SMU, Rice, etc.)

“The players on the LSC-CyFair Tennis Team remain committed to serving the community as well as participating at a high level on the court against 4-year colleges and universities,” said Sebesta. “Their commitment to each is extraordinary and they are recognized each year by the USTA for their achievements.”

Among those USTA achievements are being named Texas Club of the Year in both 2009 and 2011, as well as National Club of the Year Award in 2011.

“The Tennis Team’s continued accomplishments on and off the courts reflect on the quality and caliber of the more than 40 student organizations available at LSC-CyFair,” said Daniel Villanueva, program manager of Student Life. “As well as making a difference on campus and in the community, students who get involved in student clubs are building their resume/transcript; getting connected and having fun with others outside the classroom while exploring new interests; gaining leadership, organization and teamwork skills and competing for scholarships.”
