2010 Women's Month celebrated throughout March

Join Lone Star College-CyFair throughout March for activities that celebrate, teach and empower women such as a women’s symposium, films, library health fair displays, Drunk Driving Awareness Week and more.

Windows on the World, whose mission is to facilitate a series of events designed to enrich the LSC-CyFair Community, will sponsor the 2010 Women’s Month with this year’s theme of “Shared Wisdom, Shared Strength:  Empowering Women in a Global Community.”

The three weeks of activities on the Barker Cypress campus kick off with opening ceremonies March 1 at noon in the College Center and concludes March 31 at 11 a.m. in the College Center.

As an ongoing activity, Phi Theta Kappa students are selling orange bracelets inscribed with the word “Woman” in the top six languages spoken at LSC-CyFair to raise funds for the Susan and Jeff Edwards Scholarship for Single Mothers.

Two week-long events include Phi Theta Kappa’s “Drunk Driving Awareness Week” set March 1 through March 5 featuring a variety of presentations and speakers. The library will feature “Women’s Health Fair Displays” March 8 through March 11 with a blood mobile outside the library March 12.

Other activities include films and discussions. The three films are “Arranged”, “Joy Luck Club” and “Iron-Jawed Angels.” Discussion topics are “Women in Politics”, “Women in Faith” and “Grandma, What Did You Do in the War?”  as well as a book club discussion on Janet Paisley’s “White Rose Rebel” and a women’s symposium that covers various issues.
