Keeping fit is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. This Challenge is meant to encourage fitness and recognize those faculty and staff at Lone Star College-Montgomery who stay on a fitness regimen throughout the 2012-13 academic year.
This Challenge is the idea of several LSC-Montgomery employees, with special assistance coming from Steve Scheffler, Craig Livingston, Brad Mitchell, Mike Devoley, and Mary Mendoza.
There are two ways to take part in the Challenge. The first is a "All Star" level. This involves establishing (and sticking to) a weekly fitness schedule of at least 2 hours (equivalent of 30 minutes/day, four days per week) of aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise includes things like brisk walking, jogging, biking, swimming, tennis, aerobics, zumba, etc. Record your activity and submit your monthly activities on the online form. Email or bring the form on a monthly basis to DeAlva Engelhardt in the office of College Relations (E-101). Those who participate and record each week from October 1 through April 1 will be recognized as President's Fitness Challenge "All Stars" at the Heights of Excellence ceremony in April.
The second way to participate is the "Challenge" level. This involves measuring yourself against national percentiles in the following fitness components (modeled after the U.S. President's Challenge Adult Fitness Test):
Those wanting to participate at the "Challenge" level must do a pre-test administered in the LSC-Montgomery Wellness Center (Commons Building; bldg. A) on October 1-2 (between noon-3 p.m.), as well as a post-test during the week of April 15, 2013. The results from the post-test will be used to determine your "Challenge" status: Gold, Blue or Red Maverick!
Those who participate at the "Challenge" level will also be recognized at the Heights of Excellence ceremony in April.
All participants will receive a special President's Challenge shirt for their efforts.
Good luck, and have a FIT academic year!
