GLOBAL TRENDS

Future Trends.  From the Institute for Global Futures.  These trends cover business, telecommunications, the internet, biotechnology, health, nanotechnology, devices, robots, and other areas.

  International Energy Outlook.  From the U.S. Energy Information Administration.  "The International Energy Outlook 2009 (IEO2009) presents an assessment by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of the outlook for international energy markets through 2030."  Multiple projection tables are provided for scenarios that include a high-economic-growth case, a low-economic-growth case, a high-price case, a low-price case, reference-case projections by end-use sector and country grouping, projections of liquid fuels and other petroleum production in five cases, and reference-case projections for electricity capacity and generation by fuel.  Graphic data is provided for world energy demand and economic outlook, liquid fuels, natural gas, coal, electricity, industrial-sector energy consumption, transportation-sector energy consumption, and energy-related carbon-dioxide emissions.

Status and Trends in the Education of Racial and Ethnic Minorities: List of Tables.  From the National Center for Education Statistics, Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education.  The tables show trends covering demographics; preprimary, elementary, and secondary education; achievement; persistence; student behaviors; postsecondary participation; and outcomes of education.

Annual Energy Outlook 2009.  The outlook covers energy-demand projections, electricity projections, oil and natural gas projections, coal forecasts, emissions projections, legislation and regulations, and more.

Forecasts & Analyses.  U.S. data projections (forecasts) are monthly to December of 2010 and yearly to 2030.  Projections cover oil, natural gas, electricity, coal, renewables, energy use, and carbon-dioxode emissions.

Gasoline Price Data for U.S. Cities

Short-Term Energy Outlook - Real Petroleum Prices.  Graphs show real gasoline pump prices (cents per gallon; annual average from 1919 to 2010), regular gasoline prices (cents per gallon;1980-2010), imported crude-oil prices (dollars per barrel; 1980-2010), diesel fuel prices (cents per gallon; 1980-2010), and heating-oil prices (cents per gallon;1980-2010).

Short-Term Energy Outlook for Various Energy Sources.  Outlooks for Global Crude Oil and Liquid Fuels, U.S. Crude Oil and Liquid Fuels, Natural Gas, Electricity, and Coal.  Outlooks include consumption- and production-growth charts.

State and U.S. Historical Data.  U.S. summary data covers energy consumption by sector, petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear, renewable energy, prices, financial indicators, energy resources, and environmental emissions.  State energy profiles cover refineries, power plants, coal mines, renewables, and distribution of oil, electricity, and natural gas.  States that are leading energy producers and consumers are also included.

Environment

EarthTrends. From the World Resources Institute.  "EarthTrends is a comprehensive online database, maintained by the World Resources Institute, that focuses on the environmental, social, and economic trends that shape our world."  Topics covered include biodiversity, climate change, coral reefs, drylands, economics and business, financial flows, fisheries, HIV/AIDS, international trade, multilateral environmental agreements, population and demography, poverty, protected areas, sustainable development, transportation, water resources, and more.

Food (From the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service)

Agricultural Baseline Projections.  Provides the macroeconomic assumptions used to make the projections, projections for U.S. crops, U.S. livestock, global agricultural trade, and more.

Features.  Outlook and trends for various agriculture- and food-related topics.

Health

Cancer Trends Progress Report - 2007 Update: Trends-at-a-Glance.  From the National Cancer Institute, U.S. National Institutes of Health.  "The Trends-at-a-Glance offers an overview of trend direction measure by measure."  The measures pertain to prevention (e.g., youth smoking), early detection (e.g., breast-cancer screening), diagnosis (e.g., prostate cancer), treatment (e.g., mastectomy), life after cancer (e.g., survival after colorectal cancer), and mortality (e.g., death of Hispanics from all cancers).

Disease Trends.  From the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR).  State and local health statistics, searchable morbidity tables, and searchable mortality tables.

Health Data Interactive.  From the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Health and Human Services.  "Health Data Interactive presents tables with national health statistics for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.  Tables can be customized by age, gender, race/ethnicity, and geographic location to explore different trends and patterns."

Health, United States, 2008.  From the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  This annual report on trends in health statistics is very thorough!  Trend tables are available by title or topic and are very detailed.

Heart Disease and Stroke Maps for the U.S.  From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention.  "The interactive maps present heart disease and stroke mortality rates, county–by–county, for the state, racial/ethnic group, and gender of your choice."

Infant Mortality: Recent Trends in the United States.  From the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics.  Also shows how infant mortality in the U.S. compares to that in eight other developed countries, differences in U.S. infant mortality between racial and ethnic groups, and data on preterm births and preterm-related causes of death.

National Trends in Risk Behavior.  From the U.S. National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.  This is part of the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS).  Trends cover 1991 to 2007 and changes from 2005 to 2007.  Data is given for all students as well as for Black, Hispanic, and White ethnicities.  Behaviors include those that lead to unintentional injury, those that contribute to violence, those that contribute to violence on school property, dietary behaviors, physical activity, sexual behaviors, suicide-related behaviors, and drug, alcohol, and tobacco use.

Overweight and Obesity, Data and Statistics.  From the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Trends among adults, children, and adolescents; U.S. obesity trends, 1985-2008; the economic consequences of overweight and obesity; and more.
