About the History of Film Class
This three-credit sophomore level course will explore the beginning of cinema in the U.S. and worldwide during the late nineteenth century to the present day. Among the themes of the course will be the role of technology, the development of the studio system, the role of movies in world society and culture, and the development of film as an art form. Genres from dramas, comedies, westerns, science fiction to action films will be explored.

In addition to the text and memoir, students will be required to read short handouts about film and film history and reviews of movies and also to watch several movies outside of the classroom.

Assignments and Testing
The syllabus is still being developed, but assignments will be two or three exams, group discussions, and several take-home essays, where the student analyzes a film or genre. Desire to Learn (D2L) will be used to supplement the course. Through D2L, you will be able to access course materials. You also might do some group discussion assignments online.
