TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Spanish 101– In Beginning Spanish I teach students how to develop an understanding of spoken Spanish by teaching them vocabulary words, grammar, commands, greetings, numbers, the alphabet, descriptions of people, places and things within the Spanish language.  Also, I teach students how to tell the time, the days of the week, months and seasons of the year in Spanish.  I teach students the essentials of pronunciation by reading out loud and verbally pronouncing the vocabulary and other vital components.  I describe the Hispanic culture and its variety from Mexico, Latin America, and Spain.  Students are shown films, music clips, photos, newspapers and magazines in Spanish.  Students complete a Spanish workbook, Lab, and an oral presentation.

Spanish 102– I teach students a wider range of vocabulary which is a continuation of Spanish 101 with the preterit, imperfect, present progressive, indirect object pronouns, the impersonal se, reflexive verbs among other detailed grammar.  I help develop students spoken Spanish by having them read out loud and perform oral presentations of the culture of Latin America, Spain, and Hispanics in the United States.

Spanish 150- In Spanish 150 I mainly focus on teaching students oral and written competency at the intermediate level focusing on culture. More Grammar and vocabulary is also integrated into the lessons.

Spanish 155- Is a general education course for students who already speak Spanish though they may not have studied it formally.  The typical  Spanish 155 student has heard Spanish and perhaps has spoken it at home or at work, or has lived in or frequently visited Spanish speaking countries.  The purpose of the course is to learn about Hispanic culture while systematically studying the grammar and structure of the language.  By the end of the quarter, it is assumed that the student will be more skilled at writing, reading, understanding and speaking the Spanish language.

Spanish 214- In Conversational Spanish I help students develop oral proficiency by means of interviews, conversations, panel discussions/debates, music, storytelling, oral presentations, role-playing, creating dialogues/skits, and group work.  Extra activities outside the classroom are given to students like short readings/writings, online/lab exercises, text assignments, and other class projects.

Spanish 290- Spanish literature (Latin American short stories) in English Translation.
