South Bottom, Virginia During the Civil War
South Bottom is a docudrama telling the true story of two brothers who fought on both sides of the American Civil War. Jack and Sam Groah(pronounced Grow) were swept into the Confederate Army through their membership in the Virginia Militia. They deserted the Confederate Army and hid in the Blue Ridge Mountains for a year, suffering cold, confronting a mountain lion, evading the Home Guard and involved in shootouts with members of the provost guard who attempted to arrest them During one such episode, a fellow deserter and friend was killed on the homestead. Fleeing to West Virginia, they enlisted in the Union Army for which they fought until the end of the war. South Bottom is a meticulously documented, great American tale of courage and sacrifice in the struggle of good versus evil.
