Office Hours: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm Monday thru Wednesday

I am the Chair of the Business Department and also teach economics. After
many years of practical experience gained while working in industry and government, I began teaching economics at Tomball College in 1991. I enjoy the classroom and believe that students deserve the best educational experience possible. My primary goal in the classroom is to stimulate student interest in learning in general and in economics in particular.

WHAT IS ECONOMICS ABOUT?

In a nutshell, economics is the study of the behavior of people producing, distributing and consuming goods and services in a world where resources are scarce. It is a social science concerned with the best way to use limited resources to satisfy both individual wants and needs and those of society as a whole.  Economics is useful because it teaches us the principles of how to get the most out of the activities in which we engage.

COURSES TAUGHT

The two courses I teach are ECON 2301 known as macroeconomics and ECON 2302 known as microeconomics. The prerequisites required for these courses are ENGL 0305 or 0316 and ENGL 0307 or 0326 or higher level course such as ENGL 1301 or placement by testing.  Math 0306 is also a prerequisite. Both courses will transfer to most four-year colleges and universities if a grade of C or better is achieved.  Macroeconomics studies the economic behavior of society, while Microeconomics studies the economic behavior of individual entities such as a single consumer or a single firm. The two courses, although related, represent different viewpoints.

DISTANCE LEARNING OPTIONS

Both ECON 2301-macroeconomics and ECON 2302-microeconomics are offered in a distance learning format via the internet (DW). These classes offer students the ultimate educational flexibility as they do not require any on-campus visits although some tests must be taken in a proctored environment.

COMMITTEE SERVICE

In addition to instructional and administrative duties, I serve on the following  committees.

·        Economics Curriculum Committee
·        Distance Learning Committee
·       Economic Development Committee of the Magnolia Chamber of Commerce
