Paul Houpt

Paul Houpt is a native Houstonian and a company member of the Alley Theatre. Recently he directed The Rocky Horror Picture Show for the University of Houston. He has appeared on the Alley stages for 15 seasons in a wide range of shows, including The Farnsworth Invention, The Man Who Came to Dinner, The Unexpected Guest, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Clean House, House and Garden, Hay Fever, Love! Valor! Compassion! , Art, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Twelfth Night, I Hate Hamlet, and Noises Off among others. His musical theatre credits include Grand Hotel and Dodsworth with Casa Manana in Fort Worth, and Mame, Sugar, and La Cage at Theatre Under the Stars.  
He has also performed in Showboat at Houston Grand Opera and recently took over for John Lithgow as the narrator of Carnival of the Animals for Houston Ballet and Pennsylvania Ballet. Paul is the Artistic Director for Bayou City Concert Musicals, which has presented concert stagings of Follies, Falsettos, A Little Night Music, She Loves Me, 70 Girls 70, Assassins, Fiorello!, The Secret Garden, Pal Joey, and this year On The Town. Paul is currently teaching acting at Lone Star College-CyFair, and will be lecturing on Stephen Sondheim for the Houston Seminar this fall. He received his Master’s Degree in Theatre from the University of Houston.
