The first ever Lone Star College System diplomas will be awarded May 9 and 10. Formerly known as North Harris Montgomery Community College District, Lone Star College System changed its name and officially unveiled a new logo to support its name change in January.
All five Lone Star Colleges will host graduation ceremonies over the weekend that will award the first ever Lone Star College System branded diplomas.
Jacqueline Abasolo, Lone Star College-North Harris student, will be the first to cross the stage during LSC-North Harris ceremonies on May 9. She will be followed by 300 other LSC-North Harris students scheduled for graduation.
This year’s commencement speaker at Lone Star College-Kingwood will be Amanda Jean Mitchell, class of 2004. Mitchell’s educational journey led her to be the first graduate to receive her associate’s degree before receiving a high school diploma.
The LSC-Kingwood ceremony will also feature student speaker, LaKeisha DeAndrea Calhoun.
Nearly 200 LSC-Kingwood students are expected to participate in the commencement ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a reception for the graduates and guests held immediately following the ceremony.
Olumbumi Adegoke will be the first person to graduate in the Lone Star College-Tomball commencement ceremonies. More than 520 have earned the right to participate, and 168 will do so. The commencement speaker is Michael McCaul, U.S. congressman from the 10th District.
Maria Brock Adams will be first in line to graduate at Lone Star College-Montgomery. Two hundred students will receive their degrees at the ceremony. LSC-Montgomery professor of engineering Michael Krall, and LSC-Montgomery student Case Deaton will serve as commencement speakers.
Lone Star College-CyFair professor of English as a Second Language, Macarena Aquilar, will serve as the college’s commencement speaker.
